About me
I am Mazin Ahmad a visual artist and an abstract painter, with interest in stage design, sculpture, mosaic and ceramic art. Graduating from Academy of Fine Arts, Baghdad University 1989 i learned art in very early age where i began to view the world from a different perspective. Smells, words, and songs were all colours to me. The smell of my mother’s small room was 'cobalt'; the songs of the travelling birds were 'crimson' and the smell of the old kettle was 'ochre'. The tree is a love and i believe in the river. At that early age I drew everywhere; on paper, on the neighbour’s wall, and on my father’s shirt, expecting punishment, I instead received oil colours and brushes and he told “You are an artist, go ahead”. In my mind, i believe that it was my father who carved the initial idea to allow me to continue the beautiful journey in art.
In general, it was the intact humanization issues were what attracted me towards the world of art. That is, the relationship between human being and his history and land. Simply, as a artist, I attempt on the canvas to place a rough texture of human life, illustrating not a smooth journey but rather one that was eventful, complete with activities and creativities. To describe these relationships, I have adopted symbols from ancient civilisations and traditions, as well as using hot colours associated to that land.
